Did You See The 1016 Yard Black Bear Kill Shot?

    September 27th, 2008

I was on youtube and a friend showed me this long range shot on a black bear. I am just wondering if this is responsible hunting. I know the guys doing the shooting were highly skilled and had the right technical equipment as you can see in the video but it still seems like a stretch to kill game at that distance due to variables. I wonder if the bear could have moved before the gun shot and the bullet reached him? I am very fascinated at the skill required to take an animal at that distance but I am still on the fence wether or not it is a good practice to get into. I would love to recieve the training and practice to be able to do long range shooting like that but I would not do it unless I was 100% confident that i would not wound the game. Check out this: kill zone chart for black bears if you want to see the small room for error required at that yardage.

Mastering the Art Guide to Elk Calling

    September 10th, 2008

I recently watched this elk calling video and practiced my elk bull and cow calls before heading up the mountain after ivory tipped beasts. The video has some good instruction but also has alot of fluff. You get your calling sounds and tips to make the calls perform well but you have to put up with some cheesey sales pitches and overpraise of the owner himself awgling his calls. All in all I would say this is a good video for learning elk calls so go ahead and watch it just ignore the over zealous Mr. Primos. 3/5.

Gearing up for Elk with The Truth 9 Big Bulls

    September 10th, 2008

I sat down and plugged in The Truth 9 Big Bulls from Primos to brush up on some elk hunting tips before heading out on my archery elk hunt and I realized that its a pretty darn good elk hunting video. There is 10 hunts featured on the DVD and kills with muzzle loader and archery. It is neat to see the close encounters of the hunters with the elk. I recommend this elk hunting video to anyone interested in the sport as it will give you a good idea of what elk hunting is about along with some hunting tips. I give this DVD a 4/5.

    Eastman’s Backcountry Bulls

    August 22nd, 2008

As I am getting ready for my early season archery elk hunting trip in the rocky mountains of south east British Columbia, I am brushing up on calling and elk hunting by practicing and watching some elk hunting videos.

I popped in Backcountry bulls from Eastman’s tonight and liked the footage of the horseback hunting camp. Its neet to see hunting in this style as it is a rare occurance nowadays. They featured outfitter of Jackson Hole Wyoming William Flemming. There were alot of big bulls and good elk footage on the DVD along with some calling tips.

I felt it was a decent flick but was not the best elk hunting video I have ever seen. I do appreciate the Eastman philosophy of "no fences here" and appreciate there willingness to venture into very remote areas of Wyoming.

    Overall I give the DVD a 3/5

    Excellent taxidermy preperation video

    July 5th, 2008

Have you ever been in the field with your downed trophy animal and wondered what to do next? There are alot of steps and precautions to take into consideration when making a trophy shoulder mount. If the right steps and precautions are not followed you could ruin your once in a lifetime trophy. Therefore It is best to talk with a taxidermist before you go hunting so you can find out what he prefers you to do for him and how to preserve the cape in the field as long as possible to prevent slippage and spoilage of the cape. Here is a great video that shows you all the neccassary steps and techniques to properly cape and skin out a trophy game head for the taxidermist: How to Cape and skin for a shoulder mount video.

    Mule Deer Hunting Video Review

    June 11th, 2008

Title: High & Low in Mule Deer Country

    Publisher: Eastman’s

The Video is a classic Eastman’s production trademarked with the classic music enchanting all Eastman flicks. There is some great tips on patterning mule deer and how to hunt big cagey trophy mule deer. These guys are trophy hunters so you get to see some big bucks. The best and most exciting part is the footage of a cougar and a mule deer buck fighting. Alot of action in this clip. There are a few good kills, but the videography is not the best Ive seen. Overall I give this film 3/5. check it out if you would like to see some mule deer hunting tips:

    Brown Bear Kills Moose Video

    March 28th, 2008

Wow, I just saw this video on you tube. This display of power from the brown bear is unbelievable.  I personally can handle a quarter of a moose, but to see a brown bear drag a moose with his mouth is astounding. What an incredible animal. I envy the man who lives in an area in which moose are killed by bears on the driveway. Enjoy:
